This work was composed around an Esley Pump Organ found stored in a friend's garage from which I sourced various sounds. Also I used an edited version of a message left on my answering machine and the recording of a train at a crossing as it sped along the Golden Valley heading for the Sapperton tunnel and beyond whilst out walking on the afternoon of Saturday 12th July 2014.These 3 elements combined into the works structure gave it the narrative and feeling that I was looking for .
The Esley Organ company was founded by Jacob Esley in 1857. The company became the largest manufacturer of organs in the U.S.A.. Around 500,000 to 520,000 pump organs were built between 1840 and 1955.
